False Labor is a Real Pain

Har dee har, I can still be clever with my blog titles when I have only had three hours’ sleep in the past 24.

Warning: Exhausted Pregnant Lady Ranting Ahead.

Last night, I started having contractions, which is nothing new for the past few weeks for me. The new part was that these didn’t just come and go; they were 5 minutes apart for over 2 hours. So, I called my doctor’s office and they told me to come on down to the hospital. This was 1 a.m. (after I hadn’t slept at all yet).

Mike and I got all excited and drove to the hospital, where the nurse’s skeptical attitude gave me some pause. She seemed to think that since I was having contractions that didn’t cause me to scream out in pain, I wasn’t really in labor. I was determined to prove her wrong.

The contractions went on until 4a.m., but nothing else labor-y was happening. Grr. Then she told me to try to get some rest, and I did, though the contractions were more intense and closer together so I doubted my own ability to sleep through that. Unfortunately, I was wrong; the next thing I knew, I was waking up at 5:30, sans contractions. So I got to come back home to my two children who were already awake, and Mike had to go to work. Major suckage for both of us.

The doctor says we just have to wait and see when it’s the real thing, and the nurse told me that next time I should watch for contractions that get intensely more painful before I drag myself back to the hospital, if I want to avoid a repeat of last night’s episode. She said I could have gone into the contractions because of dehydration or over-exertion, so I should try to avoid those things in the future. Yay.

The good news: my doctor says she can induce me after the 25th if I haven’t delivered on my own by then. Oh wait, that’s not good news, that’s crappy news; I’m due on the 15th.

Maybe I should try bribing the baby …

When Will gets married …

I was looking up pictures of birthday cakes today as my research for an article I’m writing, and I found this:

Mario marries the Princess

If my son never out-grows his video game obsession, we may be eating something similar to this in 20 years or so …

True Blood Knit/Crochet-along

True Blood season 2 episode 2 aired last night, and it was even better than episode one. I was really worried, at the start of this season, that I’d be angry at the show for diverging from the book plot lines, and I wouldn’t want to watch it any more. But I find that as I watch the show I don’t even worry too much about the books, and I just enjoy it as a separate entity. It’s amazing.

Here’s the scarf I’m making for the K/C-along:

I am LOVING the way the colors in the Eric yarn blend together. It’s kind of a slow-and-steady progress sort of a scarf, because of the tiny hook and thin yarn. Plus, I’m still working primarily on my sweater, so I only pick this up a few days a week. It doesn’t bother me, though, because I’m kind of hoping to stretch out the scarf project through all 12 episodes of season 2. Not like I’ll be needing a scarf any time soon, anyway (or a sweater, for that matter, but whatev).

Speaking of Eric, he was awesome in this week’s episode, as per usual. I LOVE how he was upset about getting blood in his hair, and worried that Pam would be upset. I am really bummed that they cut his hair, though, b/c I think he looks less like a Viking as a result. Plus, (ok I know I said I wouldn’t mention the books, BUT) they’re not supposed to be able to cut their hair like that. Oh, well. The show still rocks, and so does my scarf!

Crochetin’ Fool

So, my renewed vigor with crochet has continued.  Yesterday, I finished this sweater for Zachary:

Of course, all this crocheting does affect my housework – surprise, surprise.  However, I’ve decided it’s a good thing I never get caught up with all my laundry.  If I did, where would my cats sleep?
