I finally got around to writing up and publishing my pattern for a Windowpane Baby Blanket. Here’s the blanket:
Here’s the link to the pattern. Enjoy, happy hookers!

Have a martini, baby?
Or maybe a Martini baby, as my sister’s friends are doing! Their last name is Martini, so my sister asked me to create a baby blanket with martinis worked in somehow, and I have finally finished it:
I added solid green flannel onto the back, to make it a little softer. The peaches n’ cream cotton I used for the blanket itself worked nicely to create the martini motifs, but isn’t overly soft in and of itself.
In somewhat related news, I will no longer be surprised if martinis turn out to be on the sign-up list for items to donate to my son’s next kindergarten party. Today, Mike called his teacher to let her know Will was sick, and she told Mike that the kids have been having some arguments lately. Apparently, some kids in Will’s kindergarten class have told the others that they’d better find a girl to hold hands with on the playground or else they’re gay. My darling son then told these kids they could all just go to Hell. His teacher told him that wasn’t nice, and he responded, “Well, they’re all going to anyway, because they don’t like me and they DON’T like Jesus!”
Suddenly my son, the atheist-in-training who has to be dragged to church on Sunday mornings (unlike his sister, the nun-in-training who just looooooves Jesus), is now walkin’ around the kindergarten like some sort of evangelist.
Lord, help us. I need a martini now.

Free martini square pattern
I’m sure many of you have been thinking to yourselves, “Why, a baby blanket made with alcohol symbols? Where can I get me one of those?!” If that is the case, or if you just like stuff made to look like liquor, help yourself to the pattern. It might make a cute dishcloth or framed art, or a patch on a blanket for an adult. Or, if you have the last name Martini, it’s perfect for you!
So, for those of you interested in repeating my process, just get yourself a knitting book and some needles and yarn.
If you are interested in the shortcut, which I highly recommend, then here’s the pattern for my martini square #1. To follow it, assume that the empty squares are sc stitches in your original color (in my case, ecru) and the squares with “X” in them are sc stitches in your second color (sage green for me). I held the yarns together, sometimes weaving in and other times letting the green hang while I worked with the ecru, so the green would be in the middle where I needed to pick it up the next time.
**NOTE: You will need to click on the photo to see the whole thing so you don’t lose columns.**
I worked the pattern from the top down, but it would just as easily translate from the bottom up. If you can’t figure it out, leave me a comment here and I’ll try to clarify or spell out instructions for stitching.
If it looks a little skewed in the translation, just pretend all the squares are the same size.
Jess
