Literary Endings
Here’s the prompt from this week’s Booking Through Thursday:
What are your favourite final sentences from books? Is there a book that you liked specially because of its last sentence? Or a book, perhaps that you didn’t like but still remember simply because of the last line?
I have no idea. Unfortunately, right now my life is mostly in boxes, somewhere en route from Pennsylvania to Florida. So, of course, I can’t look up any of my fave books to find the last lines. I have a book I’m reading now, The Mermaid Chair by Sue Monk Kidd. But I don’t want to read the last line, because it might spoil something for me.
My sister, she’s one of those people who reads the last few pages of a book first. She actually read the Harry Potter novels that way, I don’t know how. I imagine those books all have really great last lines, and I seem to remember liking the ending of Jane Eyre pretty well, too. Also, my kids and I truly love the ending page of The Monster at the End of This Book. A classic.
I hope there are other readers out there, booking through Thursday as I am, who are more inspired and have more easily available books for this post!!

Movin’ Right Along
Well, we’re making progress on the move from PA to FL. We have the kitchen all packed up, our clothes all packed, and mostly everything else. Mike and I are hoping that by the end of the day today we’ll have everything but the daily essentials ready to load on the truck. The moving has taken its toll on us, though, and we’re not the only ones. Check out SpongeBob:
Poor guy, the stress must really be getting to him.
In other news, I’ve decided to completely re-do the shawl I’ve been making for Amy. I’m using this GORGEOUS yarn, Plymouth Bella Colour. Here’s how it’s working up:
And here’s a closer look at the colors:
The color is called Watercolor Earth, and I really like it. I think the shawl is going to be really cool when it’s finished!

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
Okay, so here’s a summary of the past hour in my life, in scrambled order.
First, the Good:
I contacted Todd Paschall (toddpaschall@hotmail.com) about his cool new project, Crochet by Numbers. So I just checked my email and saw that he sent me a pattern to make this picture out of crochet:

How cool is that?!?!? For all you other crocheters out there, Todd will make your pattern for free from a photo of your choosing, and then he will help you through the process of making the pattern into a blanket. Just visit his web site and check it out!
Now, for the Bad: I’m awake. It’s 2:17am. This sucks.
And, the Ugly: Here’s why I’m up at this ungodly hour. My son woke up about 45 minutes ago, puking his guts out all over his bed. Oh, goody. I love my child, but he sure picked a crappy time to get sick. We’re moving to Florida from Pennsylvania in three days. We’re not finished packing yet. We have to be at full capacity productivity to get this move together. And now we’re probably going to pass around a stomach bug. Yay.
In a “not-so-World’s-Greatest-Mom” moment, all I can think is, Please God don’t let him vomit all over my new couches!!!!!
Please send me good-health vibes, please please please!!!

Booking Through Thursday
Okay, so I’m a little late on this, but I’ve decided it would be a fun thing to do every week. So, here goes.
This week’s prompt is: What are your favourite first sentences from books? Is there a book that you liked specially because of its first sentence? Or a book, perhaps that you didn’t like but still remember simply because of the first line?
My answer:
Well, of course, there are too many to count. But here are a few:
“Jacob Marley was dead, to begin with.” (Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol)
“It’s a hot day and I hate my wife.” (This is a short story by Charlie Fish called Death by Scrabble, or Tile M for Murder.)
What about YOU? Read any good first lines lately?

Sucks to be my DH
So, my friend Steph had this link posted on her blog, and I decided to give it a try. Turns out, I would suck as a housewife in the 1930’s. Shocker.
